Not all injuries are avoidable and most referees will suffer an injury at some stage of their career. Fortunately most are minor injuries to soft-tissues like muscle, which with the right care and rehabilitation will not keep you away from sport for too long.
Any injury which stops you refereeing is frustrating, but before you can return to refereeing safely the injury must heal and you will have regained fitness. This article outlines the principles of immediate injury care, the features of a good rehabilitation programme and some advice on fitness testing before you return to sport.
